KW Jump Rope Competes at National Rope Skipping Championships at Wilfred Laurier University
KW Jump Rope Team poses with the Wilfred Laurier University sign
From May 17-20, KW Jump Rope competed at Wilfrid Laurier University in the Rope Skipping Canada National Championships, winning 16 national titles. Two team members, Lachlan Marquis and Braden Proctor, were the individual all-around champions in their age categories.
For Lachlan, it was the culmination of a year of hard work, improving as a jumper, and change, after his family moved to Kitchener. He noted, “I have been competing at Nationals for the last six years, but what made it more special to win first place overall this time after lots of hard work and training to be able to win in front of more friends and family than usual.”
Matt Delorey, one of the KW Jump Rope coaches, who lives in Kitchener and helped start the team this year with a group of friends, knows that feeling well. Matt is a former world and national champion, having been in the sport over 20 years. Matt echoed Lachlan’s sentiment and added, “We’re proud to have represented the Kitchener-Waterloo region in hosting a successful tournament for the sport and especially for a new team like ours. To have our team perform so well in front of stands packed with people from our community is a career highlight for me. We’re just getting started.”
The team now turns its attention to qualifying for next summer’s world championships in Japan. Check out the CTV News article and video featuring Lachlan and Aislyn Marquis and coach, Carly Simpson.
